The technology used in Protect™ air purifiers is the combination of the HEPASilent Ultra™, Germshield™ and SpiralAir technologies™.
HEPASilent Ultra™ is a combination of mechanical and electrostatic filtration, which ensures particle removal and gas reduction. Compared to the HEPASilent technology (used with Blueair Classic and JOY air purifiers), the new Ultra™ technology combines an optimised fan system, engineered in Sweden by Blueair, optimised electrostatic filtration and an improved filter.
Germ growth may happen when temperature and humidity levels are high. The Germshield™ functionality is designed to prevent germ growth inside the air purifier when the air purifier is not in use.

The Blueair SmartFilter is the only filter available for the Protect™ air purifiers.
It consists of two filters attached by a strap at the top. Each filter has a particle filter media and activated carbon.
The Protect™ air purifiers also have two pre-filters that can be cleaned with a dust cloth or by using the soft brush of a vacuum cleaner.
Blueair’s product claims are derived from innovative tests developed and executed by professionals. Here, the SARS-CoV-2 testing conducted on the Health Protect 7400 was limited to measuring only the air purifier’s ability to remove the SARS-CoV-2 virus from a 13 ft3 controlled test chamber. The test did not measure whether once the virus was captured by the air purifier if it was deactivated or killed, or whether the air purifier was able to prevent transmission of the virus from person to person. Blueair is committed to transparency and veracity in making our claims, which is why we provide clarifications to ensure our products and our testing are accurately represented.
Per the CDC’s recommendation, improving indoor air quality and ventilation can reduce the exposure to and transmission of COVID-19. An air purifier can play a vital role to improve air ventilation but cannot offer complete protection on its own. We recommend following CDC guidelines for a layered approach, including using air purifiers to aid in improving air ventilation as part of your tool kit to combat COVID-19.
