Aroma oils release gases (VOCs) that the sensor can detect. VOC readings indicate the presence and concentration of gases, not whether they are harmful at typical household levels. A temporary rise from fragrance use is common and usually drops once the diffusion has stopped or fresh air is introduced into the room.
A VOC spike after using aroma oils means:
- The sensor is functioning as intended
- The purifier is detecting fragrance-related gases
- The unit may increase fan speed to improve air quality
VOC levels should gradually return to normal after the source is removed. Avoid placing diffusers directly next to Air Purifiers.
